Early Stress Tests of Realme GT 7 Pro with Snapdragon 8 Elite Highlight Overheating Issues
Reviewers are already getting their hands on the Realme GT 7 Pro with the new Snapdragon 8 Elite. While this next-gen flagship promises significant performance gains over its predecessor, early stress tests revealed overheating issues.
Realme is one of the first manufacturers to provide reviewers with units of its new Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered smartphone. These review units were shipped so early that the packaging mistakenly labeled the chipset as the “Snapdragon 8 Gen 4,” the initially rumored name for this new SoC.
Despite the labeling mix-up, the Realme GT 7 Pro shows promise with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which is expected to deliver a noticeable performance boost over last-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 models. However, early stress tests from Android Authority and Digital Trends indicate that the SoC may have overheating issues.
Android Authority reported that the device couldn’t complete initial GPU stress tests due to overheating. The outlet suggested that Realme’s benchmark optimization settings, designed to enhance synthetic benchmark scores, might be a factor in this issue. When tested with a disguised version of the benchmark app, the phone completed the test without overheating problems.
Digital Trends experienced a similar issue but observed only a slight increase in temperature during a 30-minute session of Asphalt Legends Unite. Outside of stress tests, the phone performed well, suggesting that overheating may only be a problem under certain benchmark conditions. According to Android Authority, this could be a software-related issue linked to Realme’s optimizations, likely fixable with an update. Other Snapdragon 8 Elite devices may not encounter the same issue.
